Ron Gwynne was elected to the Staffordshire Executive in 1967. He became President in 1977-78.
Ron was a member of Wednesbury Swimming Club, his interest was in Coaching not only in Wednesbury he was also the Chief Coach in the South Staffordshire Coaching Centre. One of his pupils was Tony Ward of Wolverhampton Swimming Club.
Ron had a reputation as a specialist in backstroke and breaststroke. Anton Wood, a former Staffs record holder, Midland District Gold Medalist and National Finalist was one of his star pupils. Noel Winter was also a former Pupil.
Ron's other expertise was Water Polo. Wednesbury had a very formidable team in both the Birmingham League and the Staffs Cup. Ron was a member of the Birmingham League management for several years, he also became the manager of the Staffordshire County Water Polo Team both junior and senior, guiding the County to a National Junior Championship in 1967.
Ron was a bachelor; he died in February 2008 leaving no family. Margaret and I received a Christmas card fom him 2007(as usual) so his death was sudden. The President, Mr. A. Ward, was able to attend his funeral.
