INTER COUNTIES GALA 2007
STAFFORDSHIRE

Staffordshire are top West Midland County

Congratulations to all swimmers in the County team that competed in the ASA National County Team Championships at Sheffield on 21st of October 2007.

Competition was very fierce and there were many exciting races with the points and positions fluctuating between several County Teams.  Everyone swam well and the spirit within the team was excellent.

As the gala was reaching its conclusion Wiltshire and Staffordshire began to pull away but despite a strong finish we could not quite catch them and had to settle for second place just 6.5 points behind. Wiltshire.

Points were:

1          Wiltshire                         491

2          Staffordshire                 484.5

3=        Leicestershire               458.5

3=        Warwickshire                458.5

Other West Midland counties:

5          Worcester County        437

11        Shropshire                    345

So Staffordshire are back in Division 1 and will be taking Warwickshire with them as the top four teams are promoted.

Condolences to our friends in Worcester County for just missing out but congratulations to Shropshire for their much improved performance this year.

My thanks to all of the swimmers, especially the Captains – Katie Raybould and Matt Cope, and to the Team Staff – Kim Wilkins, Greg Clarke and Edmund Salt.
